Kilcoosey National School, near Dromahair, Co. Leitrim

Our clients purchased the 1913-built schoolhouse of Kilcoosey National School with the intention of extending the building and splitting it into two co-habitation apartments – with the two families living separately under one roof. We were instantly hooked by the unique idea, and set about devising a layout within the tight constraints of the small existing building.

As the schoolhouse is listed by the National Built Heritage Service, we had to ensure sensitivity to conservation principles at all stages of the design. We worked through many initial sketch designs quickly, before developing the design further and receiving planning permission in June 2025. We’re guiding our clients through the process of self-building, and work is beginning on site soon.
